Router Setup

A router is a hardware firewall. By default a router allows only the basic internet access to ensure your online safety. Port forwarding is used to allow programs that require specific ports which are otherwise blocked, to gain access your computer. There are many brands of routers available, however the general setup of port forwarding is largely universal. It is assumed you can access your router setup and locate port forwarding. While this tutorial will deal mainly with setup reguarding DCC send issues, it can be used for any program you may need to open ports for. You will need some basic information before you begin the port forward settings. Your computer is assigned an IP by the Router. This is known as your NAT IP. You will need this IP as well as the port range you wish to open. The port range should be the same ports used in your mIRC or Windrop setup.

Obtain Your NAT IP

Windows 98SE WinMe

1. Click Start
Select Run

2. Type winipcfg and enter.

3. Note the IP Address.

Windows 2k XP and Vista

1. Open a Command Prompt

2. Type ipconfig /all and enter.

3. Note the IP Address.

Login to Router Setup

The router setup is accessed using your browser. Type the IP Address supplied with your router into your browser and Login. Locate Port Forwarding. Usually found under Advanced Options.

Create Ident Rule

Create a Rule called Ident. Give it port number 113 both start and end. Enter the IP address you retrieved from the command above. Select Enable. This setting ensures your mIRC client can ident to the server on connect. Often DCC will not function if Ident is disabled.

Create mIRC Rule

Create a Rule called mIRC. Give it the port numbers you set previously in your mIRC advanced DCC Options. Enter the IP address you retrieved from the command above. Select Enable. This setting will allow DCC through these ports only.

Create Windrop Rule

If your using XDCC Server Pro you will need to create a rule for DCC sends. Create a Rule called Windrop. Give it the port numbers you set in your reserved port range in your eggdrop.conf. Enter the IP address you retrieved from the command above. Select Enable. This setting will allow DCC through these ports only.

Complete Setup

When you have completed the rules you wish to enable choose save. You will recieve confirmation if your rules apply successfully. Restart your computer. While this opens the necessary ports to send through your router it is recommended that you follow each tutorial beginning with mIRC through the Windows firewall to ensure all work together.
